Tinubu Brokers Final Peace as Wike, Fubara End Political Feud in Abuja

After nearly two years of political turbulence, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, have officially ended their protracted feud, following a high-level peace meeting mediated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Speaking to journalists after the closed-door session, Wike confirmed that both factions had reached a conclusive agreement to put their differences aside and work in unity.

“We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor also agreed to work together with all of us. We are members of the same political family,” Wike stated.

Describing the resolution as final, Wike acknowledged the prolonged crisis but expressed optimism that peace had now been restored.

“Yes, just like humans, you have disagreements and then you settle. That has been finally concluded today. Everything is over,” he added, calling on supporters to embrace reconciliation.

Governor Fubara echoed the sentiment, calling the development a “divine intervention” and a critical turning point for Rivers State.

“What we need for the progress of Rivers State is peace. And by the special grace of God, with the help of Mr. President and our leaders, peace has returned,” he affirmed.

Fubara also pledged full commitment to sustaining the fragile unity, assuring the public that he would do everything within his power to maintain the peace achieved.

The rift between Wike and Fubara began shortly after Fubara assumed office in May 2023. It escalated in October when lawmakers loyal to Wike attempted to impeach the governor. In response, Fubara demolished the State Assembly complex following a mysterious fire incident and relocated legislative sessions.

Though an initial truce was brokered by President Tinubu in December 2023, it later collapsed, leading to the declaration of a state of emergency in March 2025. Tinubu subsequently suspended the governor’s executive powers for six months and appointed a sole administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd.).

Thursday’s peace accord is widely seen as a crucial step toward political stability and effective governance in Rivers State.Tools
