Tinubu Has Our Full Support, APC Governors Declare Amid Economic Hurdles

Amid widespread economic hardship and growing public discontent, governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have pledged their unflinching support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, insisting that the current reforms are necessary sacrifices for Nigeria’s long-term recovery.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting held Wednesday in Abuja, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, said the reforms—though painful—are now earning global recognition and credibility.

“At the start of this government, the opposition was loud and relentless. But today, the same policies they condemned are being praised internationally,” Uzodimma said. “Institutions like the World Bank and IMF have acknowledged the bold direction this administration is taking. That speaks volumes.”

The meeting, which brought together APC governors, federal ministers, and members of the party’s National Working Committee, served as a platform to evaluate the government’s performance and renew the party’s unity as Tinubu’s second year in office approaches.

“We are not here by accident. This administration is the result of a collective effort by all of us—governors, ministers, and party members alike,” Uzodimma stated. “What binds us is not just political ambition, but a shared vision for Nigeria’s future. We are resolved to stay the course.”

He added that discussions also focused on how the party can support its base—particularly those enduring economic pressures—as part of a broader effort to maintain public trust.

“We recognise the difficulties Nigerians are going through, and that is why we must stay united behind a leader who has shown courage in the face of tough choices. These are the reforms we avoided for decades, and now is the time to act,” he said.

The governors also revealed that preparations are underway to mark President Tinubu’s one-year anniversary in office. A programme of events will soon be announced by the APC National Working Committee, with involvement expected from all arms of the party.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the meeting as a “strategic retreat” for APC stakeholders.

“This was not a political rally. It was an internal review session. We are proud of what has been achieved, and we are confident that more results will follow,” Idris said.

Despite public frustrations over fuel subsidy removal, currency devaluation, and rising inflation, APC governors say they remain optimistic that Tinubu’s economic reforms will set the country on a firmer path to prosperity—if Nigerians can endure the short-term pain.
