President Bola Tinubu has intervened directly in the rapidly escalating crisis within the Osun State chapter of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), following the highly controversial disqualification of Senator Iyiola Omisore and several other aspirants from the party’s forthcoming governorship primaries.
The development was confirmed by Renewed Hope United Kingdom, a diaspora support group for the President, which revealed that Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with leading Osun APC governorship aspirants at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday. The high-level consultation was convened to address deep factional tensions, internal mistrust over the screening process, and mounting fears that the party could face the 2026 election severely fractured.
The meeting featured top-tier attendees, including the APC National Working Committee leadership, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, and former Osun Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
However, the non-attendance of Senator Omisore—a key APC figure whose disqualification has ignited fresh tensions—was starkly notable. His absence has fueled strong speculation that he remains deeply aggrieved over what many party insiders have described as “selective disqualifications” by the screening committee.
The Renewed Hope UK statement quoted President Tinubu as sternly urging the aspirants to prioritize the party’s stability over individual ambitions. “Internal divisions can undermine our chances in the forthcoming governorship election. The APC must not go into this contest divided,” the President reportedly stressed, adding that “Fairness will prevail, and reconciliation is in the interest of our party.”
Party sources indicated that the President expressed significant concern that the deepening factional mistrust in Osun could severely compromise the APC’s overall electoral prospects, particularly as the opposition is poised to capitalize on internal disputes.
The diaspora group asserted that the President has assured all stakeholders that “no injustice will be allowed,” confirming that further engagements are expected to fully address all grievances. Political observers view the coming days as critical in determining whether the APC can successfully rebuild internal cohesion ahead of what is anticipated to be a fiercely contested Osun governorship election. Tinubu may reportedly hold additional meetings with excluded aspirants, including Omisore, to prevent defections or internal sabotage before the primaries.
