Tinubu, Oborevwori Disburse ₦200,000 Each to 250 Elderly Citizens in Delta……..

DELTA: The wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has provided financial grants of ₦200,000 each to 250 elderly citizens in Delta State, as part of efforts to support them during the festive season.

The gesture was unveiled in Asaba during the 2nd Edition of the Renewed Hope Elderly Scheme themed Total Wellness – Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous Lifestyle.

Represented by Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori, wife of the Delta State Governor, Senator Tinubu disclosed that ₦1.9 billion had been earmarked for nationwide disbursement under the initiative. She stated that each state, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) received ₦50 million to cater to elderly persons aged 65 and above.

“This program demonstrates our commitment to the welfare of the elderly. We aim to promote healthy, happy, and prosperous lifestyles for our senior citizens,” Mrs. Oborevwori said.

In addition to the grants, the beneficiaries were offered free medical checkups, medications, and food items, including 50kg bags of rice donated by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Dr. Akpomiemie Akpowaye, a consultant physician who delivered a health talk at the event, advised the elderly to maintain a healthy diet and adhere to prescribed medications to manage age-related conditions like hypertension and diabetes. Speaking in Pidgin English, he said, “After diet, you go dey take your drug. No stop to dey take your drug o, every day.”

The beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude for the initiative.
“I cannot thank them enough; ah, ₦200,000!” said Ezinne Comfort, one of the recipients.

Mr. Gbibaje Evans praised the program, saying, “Very good, encouraging. The doctors and nurses also gave me some drugs.”

Another recipient, Mrs. Omotedjomo Okpare, urged the federal government to sustain the scheme. “This program is very helpful; we advise them to keep it going,” she said.

The event highlighted the federal government’s commitment to improving the welfare of the elderly, leaving many with smiles and a renewed sense of hope.
