President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday met with the newly appointed Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in their first official engagement since assuming office.
The closed-door session, according to sources, focused on charting a fresh security roadmap for the country amid rising insecurity across several regions.
Led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the delegation included Major General W. Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral I. Abbas, Chief of Naval Staff; Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke, Chief of Air Staff; and Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Although details of the meeting were not disclosed, a Presidency source said the President reiterated that national security remains his administration’s top priority, urging the Service Chiefs to strengthen coordination and deliver tangible results.
“The President made it clear that Nigerians are expecting visible improvements in peace and stability across the country,” the source said.
Tinubu had announced the new military appointments last Friday, replacing General Christopher Musa and other former Service Chiefs in what the Presidency described as a move to reinvigorate Nigeria’s security architecture.
The names of the new Service Chiefs have been sent to the Senate for screening and confirmation, after which they will be sworn in and decorated with new ranks.
Government officials said the new team is expected to enhance synergy among the Armed Forces and intensify the fight against insurgency, kidnapping, and oil theft.
As they await Senate confirmation, expectations remain high that their renewed energy and fresh ideas will strengthen national security and restore peace across Nigeria.
