By Peter Onyekachukwu, Warri
DELTA: Prominent Niger Delta leader and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has congratulated the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mallam Mele Kyari, on his 60th birthday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Tompolo described Kyari as a transformative leader whose efforts have revitalized Nigeria’s oil sector and restored confidence in NNPCL’s operations.
“Mallam Mele Kyari has remarkably transformed NNPCL to the admiration of even the doubting Thomases,” Tompolo said. “His patriotic and nationalistic zeal has put Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Tompolo specifically praised Kyari for the successful rehabilitation of the Warri and Port Harcourt refineries, which resumed operations in late 2024.
“This achievement has unlocked a combined refining capacity of 117,000 barrels per day, significantly boosting Nigeria’s energy security and reducing reliance on imported refined products,” he stated.
According to Tompolo, the Port Harcourt refinery is now operating at 70% capacity, producing 42,000 barrels per day, while the Warri refinery has restarted at 60% capacity, producing 75,000 barrels per day.
Tompolo highlighted Kyari’s bold security strategies in tackling crude oil theft, which led to the involvement of non-state actors like Tantita in safeguarding oil pipelines in the Niger Delta.
“When the nation’s crude oil production was threatened, Kyari responded with unwavering resolve and developed a robust security architecture. This collaborative effort has curbed oil theft and sabotage, restoring Nigeria’s production capacity from an all-time low of 600,000 barrels per day to 1.8 million barrels per day,” he noted.
Tompolo expressed his commitment to sustaining the partnership with NNPCL, adding that Tantita Security Services would continue to support efforts aimed at increasing crude oil production to over two million barrels per day.
Tompolo further praised Kyari’s leadership, saying, “It’s to your credit that you evolved NNPCL from a dysfunctional entity into a profit-making corporation focused on efficiency and accountability.”
He commended Kyari for fostering collaboration with stakeholders and introducing innovations that have improved crude oil production levels, which he described as a major step toward economic stability.
Tompolo concluded his congratulatory message by praying for continued strength and wisdom for Kyari in his nation-building efforts.
“On behalf of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, I congratulate the indefatigable GCEO of NNPCL, Mallam Mele Kyari, on his glorious 60th birthday. We renew our loyalty and commitment to sustaining the milestones being recorded under your leadership.”
Tompolo also assured that Tantita would remain a dependable partner in safeguarding Nigeria’s oil infrastructure and ensuring sustained economic prosperity.
