Nollywood actress Blessing Nze has revealed a painful chapter from her early acting days, recalling how a respected director once told her she was “too ugly” to be on screen — a comment that almost ended her dream before it began.
In an interview with Saturday Punch, Nze recounted the emotional toll of the harsh criticism. “I even remember when a popular director I deeply respected once told me I was too ugly to be in front of the camera,” she said. “But look at me now.”
At the time, Nze was an aspiring actress struggling to land roles in Nollywood. Despite the rejection, she kept pushing — auditioning, working behind the scenes, and honing her craft.
Today, she’s not only a celebrated actress but also a household name in the Nigerian film industry — the same industry that once shut its doors on her.
Nze also addressed online conversations surrounding her marriage to fellow actor Stan Nze, particularly the widely speculated age gap. “People like to exaggerate,” she said. “The age difference is just two years. It was never an issue while we were dating. Now that we’re married, we are one.”
She described her husband as her “priest and father figure,” and brushed off social media criticism. “I see all sorts of comments online and just laugh. What matters most is the love and respect we share.”
