Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State says political rivalry in the state has drastically reduced under his watch, as politicians across party lines are now united in purpose and development.
In a state-wide broadcast marking his second anniversary in office, Governor Eno said that beyond physical infrastructure and policy strides, one of his administration’s proudest achievements has been fostering unity among politicians, irrespective of their affiliations.
“Two years down the line, I come to you today to say that great has been the Lord’s faithfulness. With your support and prayers, we have recorded spectacular achievements across sectors,” Eno declared in Uyo.
“More importantly, we have deepened the peace and unity in the state. Political bickering has reduced significantly. Politicians across party lines now sit together, eat together, pray together, dream together, and walk together for the growth of our dear state.”
He emphasized that the era of division is over, describing the new political atmosphere in the state as “Akwa Ibom United” — a philosophy he believes will fast-track development under the guidance of his administration’s Arise Agenda.
As he shifts focus to the next phase of his administration, Governor Eno outlined plans to move the state’s economy beyond oil by exploring opportunities in tourism and the digital economy.
“In the remaining two years, we will be diversifying our economy with deep emphasis on tourism and the digital economy,” the governor said. “We will host Tourism and Power Summits, which will produce clear roadmaps to prepare our state for a future beyond crude oil.”
He also used the occasion to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for steering the country through difficult economic reforms, stating that the president deserves national support.
“We are hopeful that soon, with the economic reforms he has instituted, our nation will be on the way out of the woods,” he said. “He needs our prayers and support to finish the work he has started.”
Observers in the state say Governor Eno’s remarks reflect a deliberate attempt to shift the political narrative from division to collaboration, while laying the groundwork for a more resilient, diversified Akwa Ibom economy.
