UTME 2025: JAMB Raises Concerns as 1.5 Million Candidates Score Under 200

Over 1.5 million students scored below 200 in the 2025 UTME, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Out of 1,955,069 candidates who took the exam, only 420,415 scored above 200. That means just about 1 in 5 students passed the 200 mark.

JAMB also revealed that less than 1% of candidates scored over 300. The board said 40,247 underage students sat for the exam, but only 467 performed well enough to be called “exceptional.”

In addition, 97 students broke exam rules, while 2,157 are under investigation for possible cheating. Another 71,701 students didn’t show up. Some students also faced fingerprint issues, and JAMB said it will give a new date for their exams after checking their cases.

JAMB is still working on results for blind students and others in special categories. The board will hold a press briefing soon to guide students on how to check their results.
