A West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) cheating allegation has spiraled into a major controversy in Akure, as a student’s father, Mr. Elisha Imoukhuede, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene.
Initial reports claimed an SS3 student of Complete Child Development College Aule was caught cheating with an Android phone by Vice Principal Alexander Rotifa. This led to an alleged assault on the VP by the student’s mother and accompanying individuals, resulting in five arrests, including the mother.
However, Mr. Imoukhuede’s petition presents a contrasting narrative. He asserts his son merely carried his mother’s business phone to school, which was then confiscated and refused for return. He alleges that the Vice Principal, with unidentified men, later “forcefully took” his 13-year-old nephew from the roadside at night, sparking fears of kidnapping and a chaotic pursuit during which the VP sustained minor injuries. Imoukhuede denies his son cheated, calling the school’s accusation defamatory.
The father is now demanding a full investigation into the school’s staff and police conduct, along with protection for his son’s reputation from further victimization.
