The Super Eagles of Nigeria have landed in Bloemfontein, South Africa, without their talismanic striker, Victor Osimhen, ahead of Sunday’s must-win World Cup qualifier against Bafana Bafana.
Osimhen, who picked up an injury in Friday’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo, was ruled out after medical checks revealed swelling at the affected spot. He was replaced in the first half of that game by forward Cyril Dessers, while Tolu Arokodare’s lone strike sealed the win for Nigeria.
Team officials confirmed that the Napoli striker did not travel with the squad as he continues treatment, leaving Head Coach Finidi George with a reshuffled attack for the crucial away fixture.
Nigeria, sitting on the edge of qualification hopes, will now rely on Dessers, Arokodare, and other forwards to deliver in Osimhen’s absence when they take on South Africa in Bloemfontein.
