Wike Urges Okpebholo Not to Probe Obaseki, Advocates Focus on Edo’s Development

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has advised Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, against expending energy and state resources on probing his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.

Wike gave the advice during a recent visit to Edo State, emphasizing that such investigations would yield no meaningful results and could derail the governor’s developmental agenda.

“If anyone had a reason to pursue Obaseki, it would be me,” Wike stated. “What I endured to help him win a second term and the way he repaid me is behind me now. Life must move on. Focus on building Edo, not on vengeance.”

He further noted that Governor Okpebholo’s emergence was divine, despite Obaseki’s alleged opposition. “If it were up to him, you wouldn’t be governor. But God decides who leads,” Wike said.

In a surprising show of reconciliation, Wike also tendered a fresh public apology to Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo governor, over his past support for Obaseki.

“I was part of those who humiliated you. I did so on national television, and again, I say I’m sorry,” Wike told Oshiomhole. “Let Obaseki and his people carry their problems. Focus on delivering good governance to Edo people.”

Wike was in Benin to commission the newly completed Edo Line Terminal, part of the second phase of the Benin Central Bus Terminal. However, the event was cancelled due to the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
