Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved a grand ceremony in honour of 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah and 15-year-old Rukayya Muhammad Fema, after the duo emerged world champions at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom.
Nafisa clinched the top spot in English Language Skills, while Rukayya triumphed in the overall Debate Competition, outshining over 20,000 participants from 69 countries. Both girls are students of Nigerian Tulip International College and proudly represented Nigeria on the global stage.
In a statement signed by the Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Muhammad, Buni hailed the pair’s remarkable achievements, describing them as “a great honour to Yobe State and Nigeria.”
The governor noted that Nafisa and Rukayya are beneficiaries of his administration’s scholarship programme, which currently covers full tuition for 890 students at Nigerian Tulip International College.
“These are great feats that make us proud and justify the government’s investment in the education sector,” Buni said. He further assured that his administration will continue subsidizing education to ensure every child in the state has access to quality schooling, urging parents to support these efforts.
Highlighting the government’s commitment, Buni recalled the reconstruction of schools destroyed during the insurgency, provision of furniture, books, laboratory equipment, and the recruitment of qualified teachers to raise educational standards in the state.
Currently, about 40,000 Yobe students are on state scholarships studying various courses in universities and other tertiary institutions across Nigeria and abroad.
It will be recalled that only a few months ago, Yobe State celebrated the graduation of 167 scholarship beneficiaries from Indian universities, who studied disciplines including medical sciences, computer science, and engineering.
