In what has been described as a remarkable resurgence of patriotism and willingness to serve, a record number of 691 Delta State youths have been shortlisted for the Nigerian Army’s 89th Regular Recruits Intake (RRI) screening exercise scheduled to hold in Asaba from June 8 to 21, 2025.
The Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, confirmed the development, noting that this marks the highest number of Deltans shortlisted for the Army recruitment exercise since its inception.
“The turnout of our youths this year has been unprecedented. For over a decade, we have witnessed low interest in military service, but today, Delta youths are stepping forward with renewed enthusiasm to serve their country,” Dr. Oghenesivbe said.
The screening will take place at the Cenotaph Complex along High Court Road, Asaba, and will commence daily at 7am. The new date supersedes an earlier schedule of June 2 to 16.
In response to this high level of participation, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has mandated the State Awareness Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services to be physically present at the screening venue. The committee will support the shortlisted candidates with logistics and welfare to ensure a smooth process.
Furthermore, the Delta State Government is providing free transportation from designated points across the state’s three senatorial districts to help the candidates get to and from the screening venue.
“All candidates must come prepared with the original copies of their credentials. Physical and mental fitness is also crucial, as individuals with hypertension, epilepsy, or other disqualifying health conditions will not be considered,” Oghenesivbe advised.
He also disclosed that successful candidates will be immediately deployed to Zaria for military training following the conclusion of the screening in Asaba.
The surge in enlistment from Delta State is seen by many as a welcome shift, especially at a time when the country is in need of more young, disciplined, and committed Nigerians to help secure its future.
