Zamfara Gov Approves Construction of New NUJ Secretariat

By Peter Onyekachukwu, Gusau

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the construction of a new Secretariat for the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The development marks the fulfillment of a promise the governor made to journalists before assuming office, according to the state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Maizare.

Speaking after inspecting the existing Secretariat in Gusau, Maizare said the project represents a long-awaited dream of the union to have a befitting working environment for media professionals in the state.

“The Governor assured us that his administration would provide a modern and befitting edifice for working journalists in the state. We are pleased to confirm that all arrangements for the commencement of the project have been finalized,” Maizare said.

He commended Governor Lawal for keeping his word and for awarding the contract to a reputable indigenous construction firm.

At the project site, the contractor, Alhaji Almajir, pledged to deliver a state-of-the-art structure that would meet international standards and align with the governor’s vision of making the new NUJ Secretariat one of the best in Africa.

Maizare added that the project, when completed, would not only enhance the working conditions of journalists but also strengthen media professionalism and press freedom in Zamfara State.
